Is RingCentral AI HIPAA compliant?
RingCentral signs a Business Associate Agreement with its customers, which HIPAA requires before a vendor handles patient data for you. Once it's signed, you can use RingCentral AI with patient data within the BAA's scope; whether your use is compliant still depends on your setup and your own policies. RingCentral doesn't say whether the BAA covers all of its AI features.
Does RingCentral AI sign a BAA?
Yes, it signs a BAA
RingCentral offers a BAA to paying customers that are covered entities. Its March 2026 HIPAA paper lists AI Receptionist, AIR Pro, AI Conversation Expert (built on RingSense) and several contact-center AI products as covered. The AI Virtual Assistant / AI Assistant (in-call notes and summaries) is not named, so its coverage is unknown.
Not confirmed for the AI features: RingCentral doesn’t say whether its BAA covers AI Virtual Assistant (AVA) / RingEX AI Assistant (live transcripts, notes, summaries). Get that in writing before using it with patient data.

Are the AI features covered?
Vendors often sign a BAA for the core product but leave some AI features out. Here is what RingCentral says about each one.
| AI feature | Under the BAA | Details |
|---|---|---|
| AI Receptionist (AIR) and AIR Pro | Covered | Both are named in the list of services covered by the RingCentral BAA.[1] |
| AI Conversation Expert (ACE, built on RingSense) and RingSense for Sales / RingCX | Covered | ACE is named in the 2026 covered-services list. RingCentral's press release says ACE expands on technology previously marketed as RingSense. A June 2024 paper separately says RingCentral acts as a business associate for RingSense for Sales and RingSense for RingCX.[1],[3],[4] |
| AI Quality Management, AI Supervisor Assist, AI Agent Assist (contact center) | Covered | All three are named in the covered-services list.[1] |
| AI Virtual Assistant (AVA) / RingEX AI Assistant (live transcripts, notes, summaries) | Not stated | Not named in the covered-services list or either HIPAA paper. RingEX itself is covered, but nothing checked says whether its built-in AI assistant features fall under the BAA.[1],[2] |

A signed BAA is necessary but not sufficient for HIPAA compliance, which also depends on configuration, access controls, and your own policies. Verdicts summarize the vendor's own published terms as of the date checked; confirm with the vendor and your counsel before sending protected health information. Not legal advice.
